What is offshore drilling?
Offshore drilling is act of extracting resources, primarily oil, in an ocean or lake.
Why is it good?
It is a a viable source of domestic production for oil to be obtained.
Why is it bad?
Pollution from everyday operations and oil spills from platforms, pipelines and tankers can occur, and when oil is brought up from beneath the ocean floor, chemicals and toxic substances such as mercury and lead can be discharged back into the ocean. These chemicals and toxic substances can harm sea life.
How do you feel about it?
I feel that there are too many risks off offshore drilling, and if it is going to be done, there should be a 100% chance that the oil will be obtained safely with no spills possible. We have too much to lose from obtaining oil in ways that could result badly.

Clever title Madeline! We're going to look at offshore drilling even more closely this week. I think we might try a socratic seminar.
